Fitna's story tells about the life of a Congolese woman; the details of the story can be found in Lisa J. Shannon's "A Thousand Sisters".  I chose to paint the stories of these women abstractly to make them beautiful, the way I imagine the women are themselves. When I went to Congo after painting the stories, I discovered that the women are as strong, resilient, brave, and wonderful as I had imagined.
